A drum circle creates a sense of unity and synergy with members in the group! Drumming is energizing and release stress in our day-to-day lives! In a fun and supportive environment participants will discover their rhythmic abilities! We will teach basic hand drumming techniques and show participants how to appropriately play the Djembe and percussion instruments. Individuals will become familiar with the sounds of the Djembe- the base, tone and slap. Vocal and Body Percussion
Breaks and CallsAt this point we will introduce breaks and calls to the rhythms, which indicate a change in tempo, rhythm or beat. The group will be divided into section; each group will play a different rhythm learned. Polyrhythms
The overlapping of rhythms creates a polyrhythm . The interweaving rhythms create a feeling of synergy. An amazing experience! Once the basic rhythms are master we will layer a song to accompany this ensemble… the outcome is phenomenal! This proves to be fun and energizing for all!
Movement Programs “Dance fusion” We also offer movement programs, which integrate diverse cultural dance forms from West African to Modern Contact Dance. We call this dance fusion. The results of these movement programs have been many productions performed to live drum, percussion, and vocal ensembles performed throughout BC. Previous productions include Gaia, Essence, the Source, and Infinity. “IMAGE” is an ongoing Expression performing troupe formed in 1999. Performance Troupe Performance based programs are set in a series of workshop formats. We will introduce basic choreography concepts as we teach the dance forms. Participants will develop performance piece through interactive dance sessions. Angela Roy choreographs the framework of the piece and the participants support this development through a fusion of dance forms. The musical drum & percussion piece is selected and rehearsed with the dancers. |
