Primero ~ Hand Drum

Description/Styles:
Traditional a Garifuna drum carved from a single mahogany log, covered with has a single membrane of goat or dear skin stretched over it. There are tuning pegs on the exterior inserted between the ropes, which connect to the rim. On the top of the drum, three guitar strings or fish line which produced a unique sound similarto the snare drums. The Primero within a traditional ensemble directs the musical changes and calls the songs for the others’ response.

The Segundo drum is the base drum within a traditional ensemble that holds the tempo and rhythm. |
